WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THIS TRAINING

A household’s income and composition must be reviewed and updated at least once a year for all housing programs. However, there are differences in when tenants are notified and when they are required to report changes to management. This annual review is called a “recertification.” In addition, an “interim recertification” may be conducted between annual reviews to reflect changes in household circumstances that could impact the tenant’s rent share or the assistance paid on their behalf. The key question is: which affordable housing programs require interim recertifications and which do not?

Even experienced staff can sometimes find these recertification rules confusing.

This session will cover both the annual and interim recertification processes — from the responsibilities of owners and agents to the actions tenants must take to remain in compliance.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Recertification Requirements (for LIHTC, HUD, Rural Development, HOME, and National Housing Trust Fund, if appliable)
  • Timing of Annual Recertifications
  • Recertification Notices
  • Effective Dates of Changes in Assistance Payment, Total Tenant Payment, and Tenant Rent
  • Interim Recertification Requirements (if applicable)
  • Repayment Agreements (if applicable)
